About Prof. Dr. Şahap Atik

He worked as a "fellow" at Michigan State University and worked many times in hospitals in the United States, European Union and Far East countries; He received training on arthroplasty and arthroscopic surgery, laser, meniscus, cartilage, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and attended meetings.
The founder of the Joint Diseases Treatment Foundation of Türkiye, Prof. Atik is still the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors of this foundation.

He has been publishing the Journal of Joint Diseases and Surgery since 1990 and has been publishing endoprosthetic surgery (knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist and finger joint prosthesis), arthroscopic surgery (knee, shoulder, ankle, wrist, elbow arthroscopy), cartilage repair ( Cartilage transplantation, meniscus tear treatment, etc.), osteoarthritis (calcification in the joint) and osteoporosis (bone loss) has pioneered in our country and internationally.

Work Experience:

• He completed his medical education and orthopedics-traumatology specialization at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine and worked as a consultant surgeon at the same university until December 1980.
• He has been working as a faculty member at Gazi University since its establishment in November 1982.
• He served as a “fellow” at Michigan State University in 1986.
• He worked many times in hospitals in the United States, European Union and Far East countries; He received training on arthroplasty and arthroscopic surgery, laser, cartilage, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and attended meetings.
• In 1984, he presented his hypothesis formed from his studies on the Etiology of Senile Osteoporosis in Palm Springs, California.
• At Gazi Medical Faculty; He served as the head of the department for seven years, as the director of the institute and deputy chief physician, and as a member of the management and faculty boards.
• He was appointed as the dean of Turgut Özal Faculty of Medicine in 1991, but he did not accept the task because he did not want to leave Ankara.
• He was the chairman of the "Scientific Research Projects Evaluation Board" in 2009-2010.
• Two-term Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association (TOTBID) and Arthroplasty Association founding board member; He was the president of the Arthroscopy Association in Ankara.
• He served as the chairman of TOTBID “Ethics Committee” for two terms (2007-2010).
• He established the Turkish Joint Diseases Treatment Foundation in 1989. He is still the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors of this foundation.
• He is the Chief Editor of Joint Diseases and Surgery (former name: Arthroplasty Arthroscopic Surgery), which has been published since 1990 and is the official publication of the foundation. This journal has been assigned to SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded) since 2007; Beginning in 2008, it has been included in PubMED/MEDLINE.
