After completing his military service in Elazig Military Hospital, he was appointed as the Chief Assistant of Haseki Hospital Eye Clinic.
He took part in the training of 800 opticians in the 9th and 10th Opticians courses of the Ministry of Health.
He worked as Assistant Chief and Deputy Chief at Haseki and Şişli Etfal Hospitals.
He served as the Chairman of the Board of Health for a while.
He went to England with 3 scholarships he won in 1986 and 1987. On the one hand, he developed his foreign language here, on the other hand, he carried out educational activities to increase his professional knowledge and experience on subjects such as LASER applications in the Eye, Intraocular Lens Implantation, Retinal Diseases in various hospitals.
He was elected as the General Secretary of the Istanbul Branch of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association for two terms in 1988 and 1990. In 1990, he was also elected as the Financial Secretary of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association Headquarters.
In 1990, he became an Associate Professor with the exam held in Istanbul Medical Faculty, Department of Ophthalmology.
In 1995, he went to America for education. He worked here for a while in Phaco (Laser) cataract surgeries, YAG Laser applications and clinical studies.
Later, after working for many years in Istanbul Eye Hospital, mainly in the fields of Medical Retina and Excimer LASER, he was appointed as Professor of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Karabuk University. As the Head of the Department, he established the Eye Clinic and contributed to its development.
Between 2004 and 2016, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Optical Refraction Unit of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association, 3 terms (6 years) as the Web Manager of the unit, and as the President in 2014-2016. In 2018, he was elected as a member of the Board of Directors in the same unit. His job is still ongoing.
He retired from the university at his own request and started to work in İstinye University LIV Hospital - Bahçeşehir in 2017.
He worked as a Medical Retina Specialist at First Eye Hospital in 2018-2019.
In 2020, he resumed his duty at İstinye University Liv Hospital Bahçeşehir.
He participated in the majority of congresses, symposiums, courses and other scientific meetings held every year in Turkey, and presented papers in many of them.
He participated in many of the International Scientific Eye Congresses, Courses and Symposiums held in countries such as America, England, Netherlands, Singapore, Romania, Italy, Saray-Bosnia, Greece, Egypt, Austria, Cyprus, Portugal, Sweden, Georgia and Monaco with his papers.
In addition to English, he speaks French enough to follow the medical literature. He has many scientific publications, some of which are in foreign languages.
He mainly works on Medical Retina (Yellow Spot Disease, Diabetic Retinal and Vascular Occlusions etc.), Cataract and Refractive Surgery (Excimer Laser, Mono and Trifocal Lenses etc.), Optics and Refraction. He also performs Glaucoma and Strabismus surgeries.
Dr. Büyükyıldız is a member of Turkish Ophthalmology Association (TOD) Istanbul Branch, a member of TOD Cataract and Refractive Surgery Unit, TOD Medical Retina Unit and Optical Refraction Unit, and also a member of Turkish Republics Ophthalmology Association, Black Sea Ophthalmological Society (BSOS).
Dr. Büyükyıldız is a reviewer in scientific journals such as Turkish Journal of Ophthalmology, Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Ophthalmology, Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Pediatry, Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Case Reports, Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Health Sciences, Ophthalmic Surgery Laser & Imaging and Retinal Cases & Brief Reports. has duties.
