Prof. Dr. Ethem Beşkonaklı

He was born in 1961 in Antalya/Serik. He became a Medical Doctor at Erciyes University in 1986. He specialized in Neurosurgery between 1987-1992 at Ankara Numune Hospital. Between 1994-1998, he became a doctor of science in the Neuroendocrine surgery program at Hacettepe University, Institute of Neurological Sciences and Psychiatry. After 5 years of courses held in different countries, he won the European (EANS) Neurosurgery Board in 1996.
He became Professor of Neurosurgery in 2001. He served on the editorial boards of the "Turkish Neurosurgery" and "Turkish Neurosurgery" journals and as an assistant editor. In 1995, he conducted the first Neurosurgery Biblioindex study in Turkey. He is still a member of the scientific committee of these journals. He has a total of 137 scientific articles, 66 of which are international and 71 of which are national, (1036 citations to them) and 95 congress papers registered in the indexes. Its H-index is 18. He is still a member of the disciplinary committee of the Turkish Neurosurgery Association. He served as a Bulletin Editor for 4 years, as a member of the board of directors for 6 years, as a vice president for 2 years, and as the president of the Turkish Neurosurgery Association in 2008-2010 at the Turkish Neurosurgery Association.
He was the chairman of the nomination committee that brought Turkey the 2017 World Neurosurgery Congress (WFNS 2017) to be organized by the Turkish Neurosurgery Association. He is the WFNS (World Neurosurgery Association) delegate of the Turkish Neurosurgery Association and a board member of the Asian Neurosurgery Associations (ACNS). He is one of the founders of the Middle East Spine Society. He was the organizer and chairman of many national and international congresses. He also gives lectures on preventive lessons and social responsibility projects for children and young people from head and spinal cord traumas in many public and private institutions.
He resigned on February 28, 2011 while working as the head of the Neurosurgery Clinic at Ankara Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. He is still working as a freelance physician, and he is the founder-consultant on the organization of the Neurosurgery Department in our country and some neighboring countries. He speaks English, is married, has a son and a daughter.
